Newham Police Cadet wins at Met Excellence Awards
A Volunteer Police Cadet, Andreea Vladeanu, from Newham was named Cadet of the Year at this year’s Met Excellence Awards.
The virtual event, held on 23 November, was hosted by LBC’s Nick Ferrari, who was joined by comedian Stephen Fry and a number of guest presenters, including mayor Sadiq Khan, London Tonight correspondent Ronke Phillips and criminal barrister and TV personality Rob Rinder.
The event recognised a range of dedicated police work across London in a host of categories.
Andreea was named ‘Cadet of the Year’ for her outstanding contribution towards the Volunteer Police Cadets in Newham, showing dedication to tackling youth violence and being an inspirational role model across her community.
When Andreea arrived in the UK from Romania in late 2015 she couldn’t speak English. She joined the police cadets and quickly volunteered at every event in order to improve her English and to get to know London and the culture.
Andreea has risen to the rank of Deputy Head Cadet and now leads a team of 40 police cadets on how to be successful and give something back to the community. She is a key member of the Cadet programme and out of 500 police cadets in Newham is at the top of the table for volunteering.
On receiving the award, Andreea said: “Teamwork is really important for cadets as it gives us an opportunity to help each other, and it gives me the opportunity to being a great leader. In five years I see myself at university studying international relations and law which will help me with my future career in the Met Police. Receiving this award is a great recognition for the work I do with the cadets and I’m really proud.”
Commissioner Cressida Dick said: ““The awards celebrate the extraordinary work of our people, who day in, day out, work incredibly hard, protecting and serving the people of London. They include real acts of bravery, but also the complete determination it can take to bring offenders to justice.
“It’s about people pushing themselves to be the best in their field; and about those who have gone above and beyond to protect a victim and get the justice they deserve. I am sure, like me, you will be humbled and inspired by their stories.”
