YOU Croydon Challenge
A big thank you to Royal Russell School for once again hosting the YOU Croydon Challenge which saw around 90 young people from six different uniformed youth organisations in Croydon take part on Sunday 4th June.
The young people were all members of the Army Cadets, Fire Cadets, Girlguiding, Scouts, Sea Cadets or Volunteer Police Cadets. Split up into mixed syndicates, the young people took part in a series of challenges designed to develop their teamwork, communication and leadership skills. The activities involved a memory and general knowledge game run by Croydon Volunteer Police Cadets; an observation task run by 143 (Shirley) Army Cadet Detachment; fire hose drills run by Croydon Fire Cadets; a cerebral tyre task run by Croydon Sea Cadets; a logistical water collection challenge run by Girlguiding Croydon and a ‘spider’s web’ teamwork challenge and climbing wall run by Croydon Scouting.
Sarah Jones, MP for Croydon Central and Shadow Minister for Policing and the Fire Service and Councillor Tony Pearson, Civic Mayor of Croydon both took time out of their busy diaries to visit the event. After presenting YOU London pin badges to all participants and congratulating the winning green team, Councillor Pearson said: “Thank you to all those involved in organising today; to the adult volunteers who have run these activities for you and to Royal Russell School for hosting this wonderful event. Well done to all participants – you have all worked hard today to complete some tough challenges; but most of all I hope you had fun.”
